February Footy Report

The weather was cool and overcast with a light north easterly wind.

The usual merry skippers arrived and having laid out the course in the normal triangle and starting point racing began. The key to success was to try and win affection from the wind witch whose spells on the wind was causing havoc and frustration to the skippers trying to make and turn around the windward buoy. John was the most vocal on her tactics and I sometimes wonder if a splash would be heard when his transmitter was thrown at his boat through his shear frustration. I of course did not own up to setting the course as we have been good friends for years and did not want to end it on this point.

Racing overall all was a mixed bag of fortunes for all skippers, if you caught the wind you could get away from the fleet if not you  were always fighting for second place.

Overall a good but frustrating day was had by all and the weather as I said at the beginning of my rambles, kept dry.

Look forward to seeing you if possible at the lakeside; please see club calendar for future dates and the normal start time is 10.00am. Until then if the cold weather allows us-----Happy sailing.

 Report and Results

The weather was reasonable for racing although extremely cold. This was to prove the governing factor in the overall racing being limited to eight races.

Close racing was had between the top two skippers Trevor Thomas and Peter Hubbard sharing first and second place in all the races except the first where it was impossible to decide who crossed the line first so a draw was given.

John Meredith gave a spirited display in perseverance and this resulted in him gaining third position overall. Ian Apps was using the latest Footy to come out of the Hubbard/Apps stable and the new Fazor proved to be very competitive in the right hands Ian just needs to sought out the power units (sails) and I am sure he will be in the placing in the future.

Ian was the first to succumb to the cold (he was shaking like a jelly) followed quickly by John  who also declared that enough was enough and it was time to all retreat to the warmth.

Look forward to seeing you if possible at the lakeside, please see club calendar for future dates and the normal start time is 10.00am. Until then if the cold weather allows us-----Happy sailing.
